Why Does Decompression Therapy succeed when traditional treatments fail?
Most back pain sufferers end up visiting a general practitioner and receive a cocktail of muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories, and pain killers. These medications only mask the symptoms of an underlying spinal disorder. This type of treatment offers no hope for long term relief because medications do not address the cause of the problem.
Decompression Therapy was developed after studying the science and physiology of the various spinal conditions. The intent of Decompression technology is to address the underlying cause of the pain and offer a corrective solution.
Simply Stated: Medications mask pain—Decompression Therapy addresses the cause of the pain.
What is the Science?
The health of a disc can be measured by the thickness of a disc. Healthy discs absorb blood and nutrients like a sponge. Hydrated discs are tall/thick, dehydrated discs are thin. This fluid contains vital oxygen and nutrients to keep the disc alive and healthy. This fluid also allows the disc to act as a shock absorber between the bones as well as a spacer between the vertebrae. This space is necessary to allow for a nerve to pass from the spinal cord, exit the spine and continue its path down the arm or leg.
Because our discs are under constant pressure, 3 things may begin to develop:
1) This fluid can be forced out of a disc. In this scenario, the disc is labeled “Degenerative”. Various lifestyle factors may accelerate the “degeneration” of a disc. Examples include: Excessive weight, poor posture, heavy lifting, repetitive motion, extended hours sitting, lack of exercise.
2) The Disc may Bulge out of its normal position and impinge nerves which creates many symptoms including numbness, tingling, burning and pain. This pain may travel down the arm or leg along the path of the compressed nerve.
3) The dehydrating walls of a disc may tear and allow the soft “jello-like” center of the disk to leak out. [Ex: squeezing a jelly donut]. This scenario is labeled a Herniated Disc and also compresses sensitive spinal nerves and produces symptoms similar to the bulging disc described above.
Decision to be made by the Patient
Ask yourself, would I prefer
Option A) numb the compressed nerve with injections and medications
Option B) receive decompression therapy and lift the pressure off the disc which will in turn remove the pressure from the nerve?
What to Expect with Decompression Therapy?
There is no other treatment in medicine, including surgery, designed to address all the underlying factors such as disc compression and disc dehydration.
The computer guided decompression technology gently expands the vertebrae thus reducing the pressure within the discs. This allows the disc to slowly reabsorb oxygen and nutrition necessary for healing the injured fibers. Repeat treatments may reduce the size of the bulging disc, thus relieving pressure from the nerves.
Why Choose Us?
Experience Matters. Our doctors did not recently purchase a decompression table because it is becoming a popular alternative to spine surgery. The Doctors at Parkway Family Chiropractic have a combined experience of over 10 years helping patients avoid surgery with Decompression technology. Our program is comprehensive and includes decompression sessions, strength and flexibility exercises, orthotic bracing, and nutritional protocols directed to achieve long term healing.
Is Decompression right for me?
Call Today for a no cost, no obligation consultation to sit with a doctor one on one to review your history, x-rays or MRI’s and determine if you are a candidate for decompression therapy.
